Arrows of Dagon

The Arrows of Dagon, inspired by the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon. After playing Skyrim for 1000+ hours, I wanted to make a mod of my own, exactly the way I wanted instead of downloading another mod. I have poured a lot of hours into making this mod, as I would constantly load it in to check how the mod looks in-game. After perfecting the quiver, I focused my efforts onto the arrows themselves. Players would be looking mainly at the arrows while in combat, and so it was important that the arrows be visually appealing.

I also had to drop the polycount of arrows, originally they were about 4000 polygons. I thought this was fine, but then when using the arrows in-game, sometimes the projectile would not load for a few seconds whilst in flight. As such, I realised that the high polygon count was causing the arrows to not really be ideal for constant use, 4000 polygons is a lot to load all of a sudden, the problem gets worse you constantly "shooting" 4000 polygons. After 10 arrows, the polygon count on screen would have sky rocketed to 40,000, even more if I keep firing them. In the end, I dropped the polygon count back down to about 1000 - 2000, depending on the version players were using.

As this was a mod for Skyrim, I decided to make it publicly available to people through either Steam Workshop or Skyrim Nexus. I received good feedback and a lot of users were requesting that I also add a crossbow bolt variant. Early on release, it was quite a disaster because I released a version in-which (unintentionally) the quiver would not load and players would just have a red box with a question mark on their back.

It was a lot of fun to make this mod, because it felt like my character had personally crafted his own arrows. It was also the first time, that I viewed 3D modelling as a leisure in itself instead of work. From this point, I have fully enjoyed creating 3D models.

As for download amounts, I have as of 04/05/2015, 541 downloads, with 471 of those being unique on Skyrim Nexus, and 34 endorsements. As for Steam Workshop, I have 296 subscribers, 68 people have favourited the mod.

Below are some images of wireframe, and in-game screenshots from The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, showcasing my mod. As you can see there is also a shrunken down "quiver", this is for Crossbow Bolts, as it was heavily requested.
