Bulwark of Azzinoth

A picture of Magni's Forge Hammer, at different angles.

The Bulwark of Azzinoth, from Warcraft lore. Probably one of the coolest shields in all history, perfect combination of colours and aethestics to create a real warrior's shield. Black steel, with copper-coloured outlining frames and to top it off, spikes on the front. This means the shield can be used as a weapon as well as a means of defence.

This shield is around 8k polygons, due to the spherical pieces on the top and bottom of the shield. I don't think thats too high however, but optimization could definitely be made in those areas. The polygon count is around the target I wanted, as I intend this shield to be used in a game similar to Skyrim, with both first and third person camera perspectives. The model uses 4096 * 4096 resolutions for both texture and normal/bump maps. I made the additional sculpt detail and textures using ZBrush.

I think I really nailed the worn look on this shield; scratches and bumps cover the main surface of the shield to make a worn affect. Rust also seeps from the spherical objects at the top. This shield has seen long service, and it awaits for its next wielder.

I may actually implement this into Skyrim, as this is one of my favourite 3D assets that I have created. I also think it'd fit quite nicely into the aesthestic of Skyrim, especially the dark parts of the world's lore.
